Where Does Awareness Begin and End
Description
Acrylic on Canvas, 36″ x 12″
There is no boundary in consciousness, no clean edge where you end and everything else begins, even though most of life convinces us otherwise. In this piece, the meditator and the energy around them share the same color, the same field, because at the depth of real meditation, separation was always an illusion, never a fact. The colors are not surrounding the person. They are the person, the same way the breath is not something you have but something you are, in and out, indistinguishable from the air itself once you stop drawing a line between the two. This is what becomes possible in stillness, not escape from the world but full dissolution into it, the recognition that you were never actually separate from anything you were trying to reach. Jaye painted that exact moment, the edge disappearing, awareness simply continuing past where a body would normally stop.
The Contemplation: Sit quietly and notice where you feel a boundary between yourself and the space around you. Ask whether that boundary was ever really there.
