Return
Description
Acrylic on Canvas, 40″ x 30″
There is a moment of choice that comes only after total peace has already been reached, after the soul has dissolved back into the wholeness that lies beyond this reality altogether, when something chooses to come back anyway. This is Stage Nine of Alchemy. Having touched the good stuff, the place beyond life and death where there is nothing left to want and nothing left to fix, the choice to return is not obligation, it is devotion. It is the Bodhisattva’s path, staying close enough to human suffering to help others find their own way back, even though staying away would have been so much easier. Jaye painted that exact threshold, the figure crossing back from the Beyond, not because they must, but because love asked them to. Help, in this stage, doesn’t always look like rescue. Sometimes it looks like simply staying present while someone else finds their own way through.
The Contemplation: Sit with the piece and ask what you have already returned from in your own life, even quietly, even without naming it. Notice what it might mean to come back not from duty but from love.
